What is the reference field in orders?

I have a question regarding this reference field. What's it for? :p
The reason why I ask is that I can't find any values in any of the orders in this field. I was thinking that I could use it for something, as I need a new col in that table. If it's not used, it would be perfect to use for the addon im working on. Thank you very much!

It is not used by the system and can be used for anything you desire. Maybe you want to mark you orders with a certain keyword?
